Summer is officially here, no doubts or objections! I might be a little late in pointing out the obvious but I have just hopped off a plane from Majorca and i’m so relieved that I wasn’t greeted by rain when we landed. Going away gave me a genuine excuse to go all out crazy and shop my socks of in the beauty department :-). It’s not just your wardrobe that needs a shake up around summertime you know.
Lets stat with the basics. Whether you’re going away on a fabulous holiday or staying at home in the UK, as a makeup blogger I can tell you that you need to take care of your foundations….fact! Your skin is the most important thing and don’t you forget it. It needs to be taken care of just like it’s taken care of you for the last 20 odd years (let’s not mention age, shall we…cringe). The sun is just as harsh if not harsher than the winter cold as it causes long term damage and that’s the worst kind.
If you can’t be bothered to do the full, extensive and highly exhausting skincare regime that you’re supposed to, then please, please, please do the bare minimum! Cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise with SPF. I’m not a big fan of toning but the all in one kind of products that are around at the moment easily solve that problem. The Pixi Glow Tonic To Go is flipping amaze, but you’ll have to wait a bit for these handy pads as they aren’t quite out in the UK yet!
Sometimes I don’t bother to do my skincare routine at night purely because I can’t be arsed but I always make sure that if i’m wearing make up, that I take it off…uber important. When I do, I will use Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil along with Clinique Turnaround Overnight Moisturiser from Debenhams. They don’t call it turnaround for no reason and better yet try the Clinique Turnaround Mask, it should really be called the ‘Miracle Mask’ as that’s what the results are when I wash it off!
If you can’t find a decent SPF foundation they just add a high quality suntan lotion over your regular moisturiser. Make sure it’s a skincare branded lotion like the Decleor Aroma Sun Expert otherwise you will come out in a ton of spots.
I’m not saying this is the definitive skin bible but I’m always being told I have great skin and my age is always a topic for debate….prob doesn’t help that I still act like a teenager though!
The Make Up
Ahh the make up…i’m not sure why make up is made in such beautiful packaging but I am sure that make up counters are for sure my favourite stop on any shopping trip! A nice shiny new lipstick, one thats yet to be smudged and battered by the make up brush is simply the best.
I’ve completely fallen in love with new Nude By Nature Collection. It’s one of the biggest selling make up brands in Australia but has just launched this year in the UK….did I say love it?! The Mattyfying Powder is just the best for the light summer make up finish we all need when trying to avoid the sweaty look which is very often in my case.
I hate wearing piles of make up in general but in summer even more so. Luckily it seems that we can get away with much more when the sun is shining….yaaay! I tend to completely disregard the usual foundations and just stick to a BB cream like the Decleor Hydra Floral BB Cream which gives great coverage and a nice summer glow.
Highlight and blush wise the Pixi Multibalm is great as you can use it for lips or cheeks so no need to carry both around all day, again its not for sale yet but keep an eye out. The Nude By Nature Sheer Light Illuminator is also great and easy to apply if you’re on the go. No need for any fancy brushes, fingertips are better anyway!
Don’t forget about those stand out pieces like lipsticks and nail polish. Urban Decay have just bought out a new collection called ‘Vice’ which has a whopping 50 shades of metallised, matte, shimmer and cream finishes. Literally a lipstick lovers dream.
Following on from the Alice Through The Looking Glass theme that Urban Decay brought out a couple of months ago, OPI have also done a collab with Disney and produced a gorgeous range of pastel colours just in time for the summers hottest beauty trend. I am definitely loving this one and opted in with this pastel blue nail polish colour.
Last but not least, I just invested in the new Eau De Lacoste Pour Elle Natural EDT fragrance….smells gorge. I hate strong scents so this is perfect for me. Comes in a cute little bottle too so quite easy to pop in a suitcase.
There is a lot of work put in to maintaining your gorgeous body during summer. Yes, even the most beautiful among us need to do at least a couple of these things to keep their hair glossy, or legs smooth.
I find that weather on holiday or at home exfoliating is key to keeping a nice moisturised appearance. It helps by allowing the moisture to sink deeper in to the skin and also gets rid of any tiny hairs clinging on. I prefer a sugar or salt based scrub like this Anne Semonin Gel Douche Exfoliator, it contains green tea and jasmine so smells amazing.
I also recommend using an aftersun even if you are just at home. It will really increase hydration on those sunny summer days, best used after a nice exfoliating shower 😉 Try the Davine SU/Aftersun, love the packaging on this one, it’s perfect for rolling up like a toothpaste tube so you never leave a bit of product behind.
Another beauty find of mine is the Davine OI Conditioner. It’s suitable for all hair types and is a great all round conditioner. The kind of thing you should have lying around if you’re a wash a day kind of gal.
Just thought I’d throw in this cute make up bag in there too. I hate not being able to see what’s in my make up bag so always go for the clear type so I know exactly what I’ve got to work with. Unfortunately for you guys this Pixi bag was a gift so it’s not available to buy. Not to worry though, I’ve hunted down some other super cool clear bags to keep your make up goodies nice and safe 🙂
